News –

  1. Tom Savage was named as the Texans starting quarterback, so I’m a little less fired up about my trip to the opener.
  2. Brandon Thompson was waived by the Bengals and signed by the Browns.
  3. Not sure of Kourtnei Browns status. First he was waived/injured, then a couple days later it said “Reserve/Injured”.

When the game changed – Notre Dame

Highlights almost always involve touchdowns, taking a kickoff or punt to the house, a strip sack, pick 6 or some other type of scoring play. In this series we wanted to highlight the less glamorous and often overlooked plays that turned some of Clemson’s biggest victories of the 2015 season. None involve a direct score, but they all impacted the game immensely.

Key Players: B.J. Goodson and Jayron Kearse

Situation: Clemson leads Notre Dame 24-16 with 2:19 to go and Notre Dame at the Clemson 12. Deshone Kizer finds Hanahan native Chris Brown open over the middle and Brown appears headed for a first down, if not the end zone. Brown is hit by B.J. Goodson, but Jayron Kearse takes a swipe, knocks the ball loose and Clemson recovers.

Result: Notre Dame is stopped from scoring with 2+ minutes to go and Clemson is able to run some clock. Notre Dame scored on the next drive and Clemson stopped the 2 point conversion as we all know, but if the Irish score here the ending could have been different.
