One of the drawbacks of the rankings below is that there is no context – the rankings see Alabama the same as Boston College.
I’m in the process of attempting to correct that – add in a strength of schedule component- but until then the only real way to compare the numbers is to compare the rankings of the teams played (and this, in fact, will be how I determine the SoS eventually).
Given that background, the defenses Florida State has played had an average ranking of 73, while Clemson’s opponent’s average defensive ranking is 58th.
So, the Tigers have played a slightly higher caliber of defense on average. The Seminoles average was hurt by Nevada, a defense we rank as 119 (of 123), but other than that there’s not any discernible difference.
The other note here is that the Noles are not a tempo-based offense.
