New Direction

With the coming of the new year I’ve decided to make some changes to the site. Looking back over the year and seeing which posts/pages are popular and what I enjoy doing helps me understand where the focus should be for this site.

In general, if you’re looking for content you can find elsewhere on the net it probably won’t be here. Instead my focus will be on things that a) I haven’t been able to find (at least not easily) elsewhere and b) things that interest me (and perhaps a few others).

To that end, we are going to get away from the review and recap of games – you can find that on a million sites across the net. I’ll still provide my point of view from time to time, but want to focus on the statistical end of things and provide my readers things that are not readily found elsewhere.

One example of this are the statistics below. Some of this information you are able to find buried in a 300 page media guide and combining that information with the current year stats gives you real-time information that would only be available months later when the media guide comes out.

It’s 2012 and it shouldn’t be that way. Information should be available at your fingertips (or with a few strokes on your keyboard) and part of what we will be about is making sure it’s so.

You should be able to download and organize these pages any way you want to suit your purposes.  We just ask that you provide credit when using the stats (including a link back to this site when appropriate).

No longer will you be at the mercy of a printing schedule, once a year update or the whims of the SID on what information is relevant or interesting.

My hope is to be able to do the same during baseball season, to a very detailed level, but those ideas are still being germinated.

Basketball is a different animal, because there are already sites that offer detailed, painstaking detail on the team level, and lets face it, the interest is minimal. Still it may prove worthy to have at least basic season/career statistical information available and we’ll figure that out over time.

What does this mean for the immediate future?  There won’t be an “Analysis” of the Orange Bowl as we have done for the other games this year.  That’s the “bad” news.  The “good” news is that I’ll still do my “Leftovers” the day after, and by the weekend you’ll not only have complete 2012 stats, but also the career stats.
