Sunday Morning Leftovers # 8

Thoughts, ruminations, ideas, and ramblings compiled while watching the Clemson Tigers defeat the North Carolina Tar Heels 59-38 on Saturday.

  • Kourtnei Brown had a career day.  In some respects he had a career (2 defensive touchdowns) in one day.  Great to see from a good player and humble kid.
  • Let’s not forget Corey Crawford who was in the backfield early.
  • On the other hand the defensive backs didn’t have such a great day.  The double move continues to confound a few guys.  Unless corrected, this could be the Tigers undoing.
  • The Tigers entered the red zone 4 times, scored 3 touchdowns and kicked a field goal.  24 red zone points isn’t bad, but again the Tigers need to get there more often.
  • Nuke Hopkins made a statement.  Something along the lines of “Clemson isn’t just Sammy Watkins”.
  • Martavis Bryant with two more explosive catches.  He doesn’t catch them often (yet), but when he does they are for big yardage and probably touchdowns.
  • More Howard and less Bellamy, please.
  • Another ho-hum, 367 yard, 5 TD, 0 interception day for Tajh Boyd.  That gives Tajh 24 TDs against 3 interceptions through 8 games.
  • Getting Dewayne Allen involved in the offense, mentally and physically, really makes a difference.
  • As much as we love to talk about the offense, realize that 14 points were scored by Kourtnei Brown directly, and more were the result of turnovers forced (6) by the defense.
  • 8 for 18 on third downs is pretty good, considering the defense you were playing against and the fact that a couple of those misses were late in the game while running out the clock.
  • It was just last week everyone was talking about all of the undefeated teams (13).  There are now 8.  It usually works itself out.
